Google Play Store is pushing its efforts to make cleaner and safe. The company has said that it has removed more than 700,000 'bad' applications in 2017. Using the machine learning technique, Google has succeeded in recognizing and rejecting applications with insulting content before downloading it.
While Google is biting itself to remove malicious applications from the Play Store, but there are some things the user can follow as well.
Use Google Play Protect
Google started this initiative in 2017 to protect users and their devices from malicious apps. Google Play Protect is not a standalone app, but this feature is available in the set play store by default. This essentially scans all downloaded apps on the Play Store.
You will find Google Play Protector under the Play Store menu. The scanning option can be toggle ON / OFF, and you can also manually refresh it. Protect shows the apps that have been scanned and the last time they were scanned. Another great way to send anonymous apps to Google is to better understand.
Understand app permissions
You can manage the given permissions for the Android 6.0 Marshmöllow and above device apps. When you download an app from the Play Store, you have to give some permissions requested by the developers first. You can check the required permissions for each app by scrolling the developer and tapping on 'Developer'.
After you use it, you can manually allow or deny these permissions. Go to Settings> Apps and open each app to see all your details. Here, you will get 'permissions' which can be adapted to provide access to the app.
Typically, app requirements include calendars, cameras, contacts, locations, and microphones. You can toggle ON / OFF for each feature that the app can access. However, note that some special features of the app can not work if the app is not allowed.
Identify fake apps
Google Play Store is affected by fake apps Google categorizes these apps as 'copycat' Copycats are the most common malicious applications found on the Play Store. Before downloading any app, make sure to check your validity. You can do this based on its ratings, number of downloads, and most important reviews. There are some developers who go to the extent of making the app as real as possible. For more information on the web, you can see what the real logo looks like and the app's name too.
In addition to counterfeit apps, more dangerous are classified as potentially harmful applications (PHA). These apps can install SMS fraud, phishing, and Trojans when downloaded to your smartphone. Google's attempts to identify these apps have improved with the launch of Google Play Protection, which has reduced the spread to 50%.
